Orange White Russian Cocktail — Perfect Post-Thanksgiving Drink

This post was created in partnership with Netflix. All opinions are my own.

With Thanksgiving approaching, I wanted a special after-dinner drink for our large family gatherings (about 25 people). I created a cocktail inspired by a Netflix show we enjoy. We’ve loved Netflix for years and have been subscribers since it first launched.

I don’t drink often, but occasionally we enjoy a White Russian at night or when friends visit. My first memorable White Russian included ice cream and chocolate syrup—delicious! This version keeps it classic with an orange twist.

Here’s a classic White Russian with a twist: orange liqueur and fresh orange zest. (No ice cream in this one.)

Serves: 1

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 0 minutes

Make-Ahead: Best served immediately after preparing.

Ingredients

Ice cubes

1/4 cup Kahlúa

2 tablespoons vodka

1 tablespoon Cointreau (or another orange liqueur)

2 tablespoons heavy whipping cream

1 navel orange (for zest)

See the alcohol-free version below.

You can double the recipe for two servings. I’m not a fan of many cocktails (I usually prefer Diet Coke), but this Orange White Russian is always a hit.

Method

  1. Fill a rocks glass halfway with ice. Add the Kahlúa, vodka, and Cointreau, then gently stir to combine.
  2. Pour the cream over the back of a spoon so it floats on top of the coffee liqueur mixture. Use a fine grater to zest some orange on top. Serve immediately.

You can make a virgin Orange White Russian by substituting the Kahlúa with chocolate syrup and omitting the vodka and Cointreau. Finish with cream and orange zest for a dessert-style mocktail.

We enjoy these after the kids are asleep while watching a movie. We usually choose a Netflix film because our family loves the convenience and variety. Our subscription has been active for several years, and our kids use it as much as—or more than—we do.

Netflix makes it easy to watch TV shows and movies anytime, whether you’re at home or on the go. We often have Netflix on our phones to keep the kids entertained while running errands or waiting in the carpool line.

Our kids’ favorite Netflix picks:

7-year-old: Spy Kids

5-year-old: Spy Kids

3-year-old: Mickey Mouse

1-year-old: not yet—too young!

My husband and I have watched Revenge and are about to start Breaking Bad. I also plan to catch Downton Abbey on Netflix.

Netflix offers suggestions for shows and movies to enjoy while the turkey bakes, or to play in the kitchen while you cook. I rarely cook in silence—there’s always something on that matches my mood.

To keep up with new releases and recommendations, follow Netflix’s official channels. Their updates highlight specials and popular titles that make movie night easy.
