Quick & Easy Make-Ahead Party Appetizers for the Holidays That Everyone Will Love
If you’ve hosted a party, you know how valuable recipes are that can be prepared ahead of time and simply taken out of the fridge when guests arrive.
It’s no fun trying to be a host while tied to the oven or stove, juggling timing for every dish!
For last year’s family Christmas gathering I searched for easy appetizer and finger-food ideas that everyone would enjoy and that could be made the day before. I wanted simple, mostly no-bake options that refrigerate well and still look festive.
Here are three make-ahead appetizers I used and loved. They were easy to prepare, photographed nicely, and were a hit with family and friends. Each one stores well in the refrigerator so you can assemble ahead and enjoy your party without last-minute stress.
1. Christmas Tree Cheese Ball

This themed cheese ball is almost too pretty to eat. I started with a classic cheese-ball base, made it the day before, and chilled it overnight.
The next morning I shaped it into a tree and covered it with fresh parsley to mimic foliage. For decorations I added tiny pieces of red and yellow bell pepper, and toasted pecans for texture. You can get creative — carrot slices, cherry tomatoes, slivered almonds, or small cubes of cheese all work well as ornaments.
To create the star, I pressed a small star-shaped cookie cutter into a bell pepper slice and secured it with a toothpick. Keep the cheese ball wrapped in plastic in the fridge until serving time. It’s simple, festive, and definitely one of the prettiest items on an appetizer table.
2. Snowman Veggie Platter

A veggie tray is a holiday must — a fresh, crunchy option that balances heavier party fare.
To make the snowman shape, arrange three bowls of increasing size in a vertical line to form the body and head. Fill them with bite-sized veggies like cauliflower, mushroom caps, and baby carrots, and include a bowl of a thick, creamy ranch dip for dunking.
Use sliced black olives for the eyes and a small carrot piece for the nose. Add veggie “buttons” down the center and a scarf made from a strip of bell pepper or a folded strip of roasted red pepper. This playful presentation appeals to kids and adults alike and is easy to assemble the day before — keep covered and chilled until guests arrive.
3. Christmas Wreath Cheese & Meat Tray

This is one of the simplest but most elegant appetizers you can make. If you have rosemary sprigs, arrange them in a circle on a large round platter to form a wreath base. Then garnish the “wreath” with an assortment of cheeses, folded salami or other cured meats, olives, grapes, nuts, and crackers.
The rosemary gives the tray a beautiful evergreen look and releases a lovely aroma that complements the cheeses. For best results, tuck the rosemary mostly under the toppings and add extra sprigs around the platter’s edge for a fuller effect. Prepare the components in advance and assemble the wreath the morning of your event, then cover and chill until serving.
