Measuring Spoons
Ingredients
- 8 ripe kiwis, peeled and chopped
- 6 cups cold water
- ½ – ¾ cup sugar, adjust to taste
- Juice of 2 limes
- 1 tbsp chia seeds, optional
- Ice, for serving
- Fresh kiwi slices, for garnish
Instructions
-
Place the chopped kiwis, 2 cups of the water, the sugar, and the lime juice in a blender. Pulse for about 8–10 seconds—just long enough to combine while leaving most seeds intact to avoid bitterness and cloudy color.
-
Pour the blended mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing with a spoon to extract as much liquid as possible while leaving pulp and seeds behind for a smoother drink.
-
Stir in the chia seeds and the remaining water. Refrigerate the pitcher for 15–20 minutes so the chia can hydrate and thicken the beverage slightly.
-
Stir again before serving. Serve over ice and garnish with fresh kiwi slices. Enjoy a bright, refreshing glass of agua de kiwi.
Notes
- Choose ripe kiwis – Use kiwis that are slightly soft and sweet for the best flavor. A little wrinkling on the skin often indicates ripeness.
- Don’t overblend – Blend briefly to keep seeds mostly intact. Overblending can make the drink bitter and dull the color.
- Strain for smoothness – A fine-mesh sieve removes pulp and seeds for a cleaner texture and clearer presentation.
- Chill before serving – Letting the drink rest allows chia seeds to plump and flavors to meld for a cooler, more balanced result.
- Customize the sweetness – Start with ½ cup sugar, taste, and add up to ¾ cup if needed. You can also use honey or agave as alternatives.
