The best lemon garlic chicken wings — tender wings marinated in fresh lemon juice and zest, garlic, oil and spices, then air fried until crisp. Serve as an appetizer or pair with your favorite sides for a full meal.

Chicken wings are a must for game day in our house. While classic buffalo is my husband’s favorite, I enjoy experimenting with flavors — and these lemon garlic chicken wings are a longtime favorite I recently refreshed. The marinade is bright with lemon and garlic, and the air fryer delivers a wonderfully crispy exterior with juicy meat inside.
The method is simple: blend a lemon-garlic marinade, let the wings soak up the flavor, then air fry until golden and crisp. If you haven’t tried wings in the air fryer yet, this recipe is a perfect place to start.

Ingredients For Lemon Garlic Chicken Wings
Chicken wings: Use wings already separated into flats and drumettes (often labeled “party wings”). This recipe calls for 2 lbs. of chicken wings.
Fresh lemon juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice gives the brightest flavor. Bottled juice can be used in a pinch but tastes different.
Lemon zest: Two teaspoons of zest (about one lemon) intensifies the lemon flavor.
Avocado oil: Two tablespoons of avocado oil help achieve extra crispiness because of its high smoke point. Olive oil can be substituted.
Garlic: Four to five garlic cloves, minced, give the marinade a bold garlic note.
Seasonings: Garlic salt, black pepper and paprika round out the flavor profile and add color.

How To Make Lemon Garlic Chicken Wings
Air-fried wings are my go-to: they crisp up beautifully and require far less oil than deep frying while staying tender inside. Follow these steps:
1. Make the marinade. Combine lemon juice, lemon zest, minced garlic, oil, garlic salt, paprika and black pepper in a food processor or blender and pulse until mostly smooth.
2. Marinate the wings. Place the wings in a large resealable bag or bowl, add the marinade, seal or cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes to 4 hours for best flavor.
3. Air fry. Preheat the air fryer to 390°F (about 200°C). Remove the wings from the marinade and arrange them in a single layer in the basket (work in batches if needed). Air fry for 18–20 minutes, flipping around the 9–10 minute mark, until the skins are crispy and the meat reaches a safe internal temperature.
4. Optional dipping sauce. While the wings cook, make a half batch of the marinade (see Notes below) to use as a dipping sauce or to brush on the wings after cooking. This adds extra lemon-garlic brightness.
5. Serve. Plate the wings immediately with extra lemon wedges and the dipping sauce on the side.
Note: Air fryer models vary, so monitor progress the first time you make this recipe to prevent overcooking.
Help – I don’t have an air fryer! Can I bake these wings instead? Yes. Bake on a wire rack set over a rimmed baking sheet at 400°F for 30–35 minutes until golden and cooked through. For extra crispness, broil for 3–5 minutes at the end.
- Arrange wings on a sprayed wire rack over a rimmed sheet pan and bake without flipping.
- Optional: broil briefly to further crisp the skin.

Dipping Sauces
A little extra marinade makes a great dip, but here are other tasty options:
- Lemon ranch: Stir a squeeze of fresh lemon into your favorite ranch dressing for a bright twist.
- Healthier lemon ranch: Mix 1 cup plain Greek yogurt with 2 tablespoons ranch seasoning and 2 teaspoons lemon juice for a lighter dip.

Why you’ll love this chicken wing recipe
- Vibrant flavor: A combination of lemon juice and zest gives a fresh, bright taste perfect for lemon lovers.
- Lighter preparation: Air frying uses minimal oil while still producing crisp results.
- Reliable results: Crispy outside, tender inside when cooked properly.
- Party favorite: Bright, familiar flavors make these wings popular at gatherings.
